DOODLE

Yes D for Doodle. First I came across the word Doodle from the Google logo. I was very much fascinated by the way Google changed their logo from time to time.

Learning Science through magnets

As National Science Day is coming on  28th February ....learn to do a simple experiment with magnet. This post is already published in Indian Moms Connect community

Things required:

1)magnets
2)rectangular black chart paper
3)chalk
4)car cutouts
5)paper clips

Method :

1) Take a rectangular black chart paper and draw smal lines in the middle to make it look like a road.

2) Take any colour chart paper and draw a car and cut it as shown in the picture .Make sure you have an extra small slit of paper below the car tyres to attach the paper clips.

3) Now hold the black chart paper ( road ) and keep the car above the black chart paper. And hold the magnet exactly below the black chart where you have placed the car and move the magnet....

4) You can see the car moving above along with the magnet which is below the black chart paper.

Learning through this experiment :

Magnet attracts metals. The metal here is the paper clip, which moves along with the magnet .

Now, tell your kids to hold a magnet and go around the house and find out what all the magnet attracts.
Remember, that science is everywhere. It is for us to teach our kids to discover the little nuances of science in every corner of their everyday life!

Happy National Science Day!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

( This blog is already published in IMC )

The Very Hungry Caterpilar is a wonderful picture book to be in every kids library. Eric Carle, the author and illustrator of the book has a very unique way of illustrating his books. This book potraits the journey of a caterpillar from an egg to a beautiful butterfly.
After reading and re-reading it so many times, Ri (my 6 year old daughter) and me thought of crafting this book in our own way.
Here are the steps.
1) We started with making an egg with a sponge and stuck it on a leaf made with green chart paper.

2) The next stage was the Cocoon. For that first we cut the White chart paper in oval shape. Then for making the cocoon we used the pista shells.

3)The third stage was the making of the Caterpillar. Ri wanted it to be as it is in the book. So I drew it for her like that and she coloured it using different shades of green.

4) The final stage- Making of the butterfly. For that we used two different coloured square paper of different sizes. One little bigger than the other. Using the fan folding technique we made the wings of the butterfly. Then using the pipe cleaners we made the body and antennae of the butterfly.

And Bingo we finished making it and here is the final full craft :)

DRAWING USING INDIAN INK

All these drawings I have tried using Indian ink. When I started it I found it quite difficult as I had to use a nib which wasn't that good. And also had to be careful because once drawn cannot be erased. But it was good fun trying it.

POT PAINTING

Pot painting is a creative work in which you can make an ordinary earthern pot to a real attractive one and it can be a real good decorative piece for your home. Here I have put some of my pot paintings.See them and tell your comments.

POT PAINTING WITH M-SEAL:
  • By using M-Seal you can make a embossed image on your pot
  • M-Seal is just like a clay, you can shape it as you want and fix it on the pot.
  • You can use fevicol to fix it if you want.
  • Colour it after it has completely dried and become hard.
  • Here I have made rose and have given it a bright light colour to contrast it with the black background.
  • You can try it as you want and COLOUR UR IMAGINATION!!!!

POT PAINTING WITH FEVICRYL COLOURS:
  • To do pot painting using Fevicryl colours, all you have to do is first dip the pot in water for whole night. So that it will not absorb more paint.
  • Then paint the pot with premier white cement which you can get in any hardware shop.
  • Then start painting your pot as you like.

PENCIL SHADING

Pencil Shading has always been my favourite. You can depict all that you want with just a pencil..isn't that just amazing!!! And moreover it is very simple too.All you need to have is a good pencil...ya trust me on that. You can just do wonders with that. Here I have used 2b,4b and 6b pencils. You have to be just good at playing with your shades.

COOL CARTOONS

Cartoons are always meant to be funny, interesting and enjoyable to see.You can see them lotta times and still don't get bored. Here I have kind of tried what you call as "Gag Cartoons". It's my own creativity that I have tried to put them in cartoon form.I don't know how much I have succeeded in bringing out humour...its just a try!!
